MAA's Arbor Day of Service – Friday, April 24, 2015
Boston, MA — The Massachusetts Arborists Association (MAA) held its annual Arbor Day of Service on Friday April 24, 2015. Several hundred professional arborists mobilized and donated more than $200,000 in services such as tree planting, safety pruning and hazard tree removal to communities in need throughout Massachusetts. This annual statewide volunteer effort is held to build awareness about proper tree care and the importance of working with trained professionals.
Across the state, small and large teams of professional arborists donated their skills to their local communities. More than 40 projects took place at schools, parks, town commons, libraries, cemeteries and community centers across the state. For example, MAA member Carl Cathcart, MCA assembled more than a dozen local tree care companies who focused their volunteer efforts at the deCordova Museum and Sculpture Park in Lincoln. The group undertook a large tree transplantation, and extensive pruning of many large and ornamental trees, as well as providing museum visitors with educational presentations and materials on the environmental importance of trees.
In downtown Boston, a team of Boston Parks & Recreation employees joined with twelve local tree care companies to undertake a wide variety of much-needed tree work at Olmsted Park. In the western part of the state MAA member tree care companies joined with Smith College arborists to donate more than $20,000 worth of tree work at Child's Park in Northampton.
